The Renton Roots – Farm to You program which was created in 2022 is a partnership between the Renton Farmers Market, the City of Renton, Compass Housing Alliance, and other organizations.
The program aims to provide fresh, local produce from the farmers market to veterans experiencing food insecurity living at Compass Housing Alliance. It allows farmers to get paid for produce that would otherwise be donated.
Back in 2022, boxes of produce were delivered to those in need. In 2023, a market-like experience was created at Compass Housing where residents could choose their own produce. The program worked with WSU to provide nutrition education and cooking tips.
The program concluded for the season on August 30. It is unclear if funding will be available to continue it in future years.
